Bedspread - 245 cm - 200 cm - Crochet masterpiece

Splendid and monumental Italian artisanal handmade double bedspread, dating from the late 1950s and coming from an important antique trousseau. This textile masterpiece is the fruit of months of skilful and patient work entirely done by hand, as testified by the microscopic and fascinating asymmetries typical of true crochet work.
Technical and Construction Characteristics:
• The Irish Rose Motif: it is composed of 256 modular geometric tiles, where at the center of each tile stands a sumptuous rose worked with tall stitch and double crochet, creating an exceptional three-dimensional (relief) effect. This technique (known as the Irish Rose) gives the fabric a rich texture and a magnificent play of light and shadow depending on the light.
• The Assembly: around the central rose develops a geometric weave of small empty chain squares. The 256 tiles were joined together by hand one by one, using a thread identical in color but finer, ensuring a sturdy, invisible join and extreme sartorial elegance.
• Edge Finish: the bottom of the bedspread is enriched and finished with a monumental scalloped border of very elaborate festoons, framing the bed with a soft and sinuous fall.
• Generous Dimensions: 245 x 200 cm, ideal coverage for modern double beds, offering a length that can elegantly cover even the pillow area.
• Consistency: The substantial weight of about 3,800 grams testifies to the use of a pure, high-quality, tightly twisted cotton thread, full-bodied, resistant, and with a warm and elegant tone (cream white / natural light ivory, not chemically bleached).
