Writing slope - Burr walnut - Victoriano c. 1870–1890

Magnificent collectible piece and antique dealer item. It is a travel desk / writing slope / lap desk with a Victorian-style tilt (English Victorian Sloping Writing Slope / Lap Desk), from the second half of the 19th century (c. 1870–1890), accompanied by a lot of original calligraphy accessories.

Spectacular travel desk or Victorian-era sloping desk (writing slope) entirely crafted in noble wood veneered in extraordinary, streaked burr walnut root. As an exceptional added value, the lot includes an original box of steel nibs from the famous English foundry C. Brandauer & Co. (Birmingham) ("Celebrated Black J"), a Ry & Co. Ltd. paper supply package (Order No. 1680), and several additional period nibs, making it a highly attractive and decorative collecting set.

Condition
Structure: Solid and stable. The woods retain their structural integrity and proper weight.
Exterior surface: Beautiful original patina with the characteristic warmth of the walnut root. Shows light surface wear and permissible micro-abrasions appropriate to its age and use, contributing authenticity and character.
Interior and accessories: The writing leather shows marks from use. The metal nib and paper cases are in good historical condition. (Note: The original key to the lock is not included). Overall condition Very good, good for its age, with an exceptional patina and normal signs of use. Exterior (Walnut root): Stands out for its exceptional grain and patina, with main aesthetic defects being a central-frontal darkened area with partial loss of the original varnish, light superficial scratches, and small nicks or minor sheet-metal edge wear at the edges and corners.
Interior and writing surface: The green leather (skiver) of the sloping surface shows visible wear from use, with lightened areas, wrinkles, and partially subdued gold tooling patterns.
Accessories: The historic nib and paper cases show the expected wear of old paper and cardboard, remaining fully original in appearance with no invasive restorations.
