Icon - Santi Medici - Wood

An interesting Russian icon dating to the late 18th century, depicting the Saints Medici (Anargiri) and scenes from their Life.

At the center are depicted the Saints Medici with their traditional attributes, the medicinal chests and medical instruments. In Orthodox theology their figure embodies charity and free healing, hence the epithet of Saints Anargiri ("without money").

The surrounding scenes recount the key moments of their lives, the martyrdom and the healing miracles.

Icon in good conservational condition for its age, generous dimensions 44x40 cm, the icon shows no live woodworms as it has undergone anti-woodworm treatment.
