Comtoise clock with long duration movement with pressed brass face.
A beautiful, original Comtoise clock featuring a long duration movement (approx. 1 month depending on mounting height) and a pressed brass face (decorative front panel). The folding pendulum is of an early design, as it still features a pendulum housing on the top side of the case. The design on the brass face depicts two griffins, a vase of flowers, and a shell motif. It dates to around 1820.
The clock is in fine, original condition. The dial has been touched up in a few places (see photos), and the bell has been repaired at some point (though it still sounds good).
The movement features a verge escapement and strikes on the hour and half-hour. The movement originally included an alarm mechanism; parts of this remain, but it is no longer functional.
The clock is in working order and has recently been cleaned.
Warning: transport can affect the operation of a mechanical clock. Restarting a mechanical clock can also affect the pendulum's swing (causing irregular ticking). Adjusting this requires some expertise.
Due to the heavy weights, the clock may be shipped in two separate packages.
Collection is also possible in Westerbork, the Netherlands.
