William Morris (Walthamstow, March 24, 1834 – London, October 3, 1896) was a British artist and writer.

Strawberry Thief reproduces one of William Morris’s most recognizable designs and, in our view, it is the most iconic Arts and Crafts-style artwork. He originally created the tapestry after watching birds stealing strawberries from the garden of his home in Gloucestershire, Kelmscott Manor.

Morris was among the principal founders of the Arts and Crafts movement; he is considered a pioneer of modern designers and had a notable influence on architecture and architects of his time.

Many consider him the father of the Modern Movement, although he was not an architect himself. He founded a design studio in collaboration with the artist Edward Burne-Jones and the poet and artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who deeply influenced church and house decoration in the twentieth century. He also contributed significantly to the revival of traditional textile arts and the related production methods.
