VPEB All scales - TM44 - Digital control unit (1) - TM44 Dinamo system The TM44 is a module for the control of trains on the model railway and the reporting of the positions of the trains.
The TM44 is a module for controlling trains on the model railway and reporting the positions of the trains. The TM44 is part of the “Dinamo Plug and Play” concept, but can optionally also be used in a Dinamo Classic system up to firmware version 1.21. The TM44 offers: – Control of 4 blocks – Detection of trains in 4 sections per block – Control of analog trains with pulse-width modulation in 64 steps – Permanent lighting of analog trains when stationary (switchable) – Control of digital trains by means of DCC 28/128 steps. – Adjustable short-circuit protection per block – Communication via RS485 – Each block has its own booster of 2.5A – Each block has an integrated redundancy function All connections on the TM44 consist of screw-terminal or “clip” terminals. This means you do not need to solder to connect the TM44. Block control The TM44 provides outputs to individually and independently control 4 blocks. The control of a block can be analog or digital. The switching between analog and digital is done dynamically under the control of the RM-C module, so you can mix analog and digital rolling stock on your layout.
Train detection Each block output of the TM44 is split into 4 sections for train position reporting by means of current detection, so that in all cases an accurate positioning of trains can be achieved. Analog trains The control of analog trains is done via pulse-width modulation. This mode of control ensures good running behavior of your rolling stock, provided that it is technically reasonably in order. With pulse-width control you can run nicely at crawl speed under that condition. Of course you can drive both forward and backward. The 63 speed steps per direction ensure that rolling stock with differing characteristics can be controlled in such a way that always a natural running behavior is achieved. Permanent lighting (analog) The TM44 provides (if desired) permanent lighting of rolling stock. The lighting is done with an alternating current of about 18 kHz and is adjustable in 16 steps. The permanent lighting can be turned on and off per block (also Dynamic). When driving that permanent lighting, even the locomotive lighting can be directed depending on direction. For the latter you only need a simple auxiliary switch in your locomotive. Digital trains For digital control, the TM44 provides digital power for each block and the DCC packets for the trains. The DCC packets are generated per block separately and only for the train that is in that block. The advantage of such a solution is that this method is extremely scalable. Per block up to 10 DCC packets can be generated, sufficient for multiple locomotives (multi-traction), control stations and extensive bells and whistles. The management of the DCC information for the different blocks and TM44 controllers is handled by the RM-C. Short-circuit protection The TM44 is short-circuit protected. As soon as the current exceeds 2 A, the controller switches off the voltage (per block) within a few microseconds and back on within 10 milliseconds once the overload is lifted. Any overload is signaled to the controlling computer. Power supply The TM44 only requires a single power supply of 8..24 V DC. The supplied supply voltage is the voltage that will appear on the rails for the trains. In general, a voltage of 15 to 18 V DC is a good choice. Communication The communication between RM-C and TM44s is via a serial (network) connection based on RS485. This allows you to bridge large distances (up to 1200 meters), so you can place the TM44 modules decentrally (e.g., under your model railway) close to the blocks that the module controls. For the network connection you can either make your own connecting cable or use standard RJ45 network cables.
