IKEA - Carl Öjerstam - Bench - Bergön - Rattan

An iconic and highly sought-after design classic from IKEA from the end of the previous century: the legendary IKEA 'Peanut' (peanut) bench. This rare model was released in 1999 in a very limited edition and at the time never appeared in the standard yearly catalogs. As a result, it has grown into a beloved and extremely scarce collector's item among Mid-Century Modern and vintage IKEA design enthusiasts.

The bench owes its name to the organic, three-dimensionally undulating shape of a peeled peanut. The furniture was, at the time, fully hand-woven on commission for IKEA from natural rattan in Indonesia (Cirebon region), which guaranteed the absolute top class in rattan weaving. The seating rests on the distinctive slim frame of four metal hairpin legs. The legs are firmly attached to the wooden support beam of the frame via the original clamping system.

Condition: The bench is in good, sturdy vintage condition. The rattan weave around it is still beautifully intact and has no large cracks or holes in the seating surface. The furniture naturally shows light, age-appropriate signs of use (such as a subtle patina/discoloration of the natural material and minimal superficial marks on the metal frame), which give the piece its unique vintage character. The original production sticker on the bottom is missing (as is common with this model), but the construction and materials are 100% original.
