Description from the seller

Fantastic small bulbous vase (solid), in Chinese porcelain with flambé glaze / oxblood, also known as "beehive" due to its shape.

Features the praise mark ("吉言赞颂款") in four blue characters under the glaze, arranged in two columns, reading: "益友鼎" 玉雅製 (Yì yǒu dǐng yù yǎ zhì). Freely translated as "A piece as elegant and precious as jade, made in the style of the ancient ding tripod for a good friend".

Vase of bulbous and flattened shape with a narrow and short neck. It presents a glossy, thick monochrome glaze in deep blood-red tones, with variations and brown/dark nuances characteristic of the firing. The base has a transparent and glossy glaze with a fine natural network of crazing, letting the porcelain paste show through with a slightly raised and neatly trimmed support ring. Defects in the coverage of the enamel glaze near the base that expose porcelain are inherent manufacturing flaws and not cracks or damage; the piece is in very good condition.

Seller's Story

Antiques are my great passion; all the items I have on auction were found at antique fairs and antique shops mainly from the Lisbon area, but also from the rest of Portugal, a country with a centuries-old history and many fabulous pieces and objects from this long journey, which I present here for auction. Only pieces of good quality, distinctly original, and obviously beautiful. Guarantee of quality and great care in the shipping of the items. Thank you.
