Description from the seller
Large pair of Cleoniceras ammonites from Madagascar – 19 cm – polished fossil and mineralized
Description
Superb pair of fossil ammonites from Madagascar, cut along the axis and carefully polished to reveal the remarkable internal structure of the fossil.
The two halves show beautiful symmetry when joined and allow the full spiral to be appreciated as well as the numerous natural suture lines, particularly well drawn.
The chambers of the ammonite are partially filled with natural crystalline mineralization, offering striking contrasts between anthracite gray, silvery gray, white and black tones. Some cavities display an especially aesthetic crystalline texture.
The fossil is presented in two complementary halves, each measuring about 19 cm in diameter and 2 cm thick.
