A decorative set of five Mobach Keramiek vases from the Netherlands, dating to the 1960s–1970s in a mid‑century modern style, with five distinct shapes and glazes and individual dimensions of approximately 7 cm, 12.5 cm, 10 cm, 6.5 cm and 8.5 cm, all in ceramic and in good used condition with minor signs of aging and spotting.
Description from the seller
A special and decorative set of five vases from Mobach Keramiek of Utrecht. The vases date from the mid-20th century, probably the 1950s–1960s.
The five vases nicely illustrate how characteristic Mobach's ceramic production was during this period. Each piece has its own form, colourway and surface treatment. It is precisely the combination of the different models that makes this an attractive collectible for lovers of Dutch ceramics, Mid-Century Modern, and studio pottery.
Mobach Keramiek was founded in 1895 in Utrecht and is known for handmade ceramics, with thrown and hand-built forms finished with distinctive, often experimental glazes. In the 1950s and 1960s, too, many small series and unique pieces were produced.
The five vases
1. Black/yellow decorative vase, approx. 7 cm high
The most striking piece of the set. This small, sculptural vase has a dark, almost black ground with a particularly geometric pattern in warm yellow/ochre tones. The pattern runs all around the shoulder and gives the vase a strong graphic Mid-Century character.
Height: approx. 7 cm
2. Gray/white bottle vase, approx. 12.5 cm high
A simple and elegantly formed vase with a light gray/white surface and a relatively broad, straight neck. The subdued colour and organic form fit perfectly within the Dutch ceramic tradition of the 1950s.
Height: approx. 12.5 cm.
3. Green/beige vase with characteristic "waffle" neck, approx. 10 cm high
A special model with a round, low base and a long neck featuring clear horizontal/ribbed turning. The green-beige glaze has a lively, somewhat marled appearance.
Height: approx. 10 cm.
4. Red ball vase, approx. 6.5 cm high
A small, spherical vase in a warm red/brick-red colour. The surface shows a clearly handmade character with subtle colour and glaze variations. The compact form makes this a typical decorative miniature vase.
Height: approx. 6.5 cm.
5. Red block vase, approx. 8.5 cm high
A boldly designed, almost cubist model with a broad rectangular body and short neck. The red/orange glaze has a lively, somewhat rough and flame-like appearance. This piece is not signed on the bottom, but clearly exhibits the character and finish typical of Mobach ceramics.
Dimensions: approx. 8.5 cm high × 7.5 cm wide × 5 cm deep.
