Description from the seller
Large Vintage Turkish Oushak Kilim – 352 × 217 cm – Handwoven – Ivory & Blue Geometric Motifs
Description
An impressive large vintage Oushak kilim from Western Anatolia, Turkey, traditionally handwoven and distinguished by its restrained geometric composition and unusually large dimensions.
Measuring 352 × 217 cm (approximately 11.5 × 7.1 ft), the kilim covers approximately 7.64 m², making it a substantial example of traditional Anatolian flatweaving.
The design is characterised by a light ivory / cream-coloured field decorated with rows of stylised geometric motifs. Deep blue motifs create the strongest visual contrast, complemented by softer beige, ochre and occasional rust-coloured elements.
The relatively minimal composition is particularly attractive. Rather than using a dense medallion or floral pattern, the weaver created a rhythmic arrangement of individual geometric forms across the open field, resulting in a textile that appears both traditional and remarkably contemporary.
A narrow dark blue geometric edging frames the composition and visually connects the repeated blue motifs throughout the field.
