Terrestrial table globe - Peter J Oestergaard - 1900-1910

Beautiful and unique antique globe made by the publishing house of Peter J. Oestergaard in Berlin.
It concerns an extremely rare specimen that was made for the publishing house of Deutsche Zeitung, at Wilhelmstrasse 9, Berlin SW18 (the present Kreuzberg). Deutsche Zeitung was published from 1896 to 1925 and was most likely printed by Hofbuchdruckerei W Buxenstein, which was located at that address and printed several newspapers.
The globe was made in 1903 and is the first globe with a map sheet on which countries are color-coded in full, in contrast to earlier maps where only the border extent of countries was colored. The depiction of completely colored countries was new and ahead of its time. In later specimens Peter Oestergaard returned to only colored borders.
In 1911 the publishing house of Peter Oestergaard was taken over by his younger brother Paul Oestergaard and the globes were published almost unchanged thereafter, until in 1915 he began issuing globes under the name of the reactivated Columbus publishing house, which to this day still produces globes and is still run and owned by the Oestergaard family.
This specific specimen of the 1903 globe is exceptionally rare because it is a copy that was sold by Deutsche Zeitung. The original brass label plaque of the newspaper is still attached to the base, with the original nails. Even a piece of the original price sticker is still on it.
The globe is in good condition, without dents or cracks and shows a beautiful patina that nicely displays the age. The lacquer is still good as well.
A unique specimen with great historical value for collectors of globes and/or books and newspaper-related collectibles. Additionally, it is a beautiful aesthetically pleasing globe on a beautiful original base. A jewel for any study room or living room.
