Description from the seller
Pair of Antique Walnut Nightstands with White Marble Top - Carlo X / Louis-Philippe Style - 19th Century
Description:
Up for auction, a fascinating pair of antique nightstands dating to the mid-19th century (approx. 1840–1860), attributed to the Carlo X style or early Louis-Philippe. These pieces exhibit the sober elegance and classical proportions typical of Italian cabinetmaking of the period.
Main Features:
Material: Built of solid walnut with a beautiful warm and rich patina. The sides and door panels show a well-defined wood grain.
Top surfaces: Both nightstands are topped with their original Carrara white marble tops, with subtle gray veining. The marble adds a touch of light and refinement to the dark wood.
Design: The construction is sturdy, featuring turned front column posts that terminate in elegant onion-shaped feet (stout feet).
Storage: Each nightstand has an upper drawer in the frieze, with an original decorative brass/brass-worked knob. Under the drawer is a single-panel door opening to a spacious interior, divided by a central solid wood shelf.
Details: Original metal escutcheons (one shield-shaped, the other lozenge-shaped). Internal locks are present; a single key is provided usable on both locks.
Condition:
The nightstands are generally in good condition given their age, solid and structurally sound. They show normal signs of aging and wear that confirm their authenticity.
Technical Details:
