Fragments of polychrome wooden religious sculptures – 17th century
Set of three ancient fragments of carved wooden religious sculptures with traces of polychromy, including a substantial fragment of a draped angel as well as two angel heads, one emerging from a decoration of stylized foliage.
These elements very likely come from an old church decoration or Baroque altarpiece. The sculpture, the flowing hairstyles, and traces of polychromy allow dating to the 17th century, possibly early 18th.
Probable origin: Southern Europe, possibly Italy or the Iberian Peninsula.
Fragmentary condition, significant wear and gaps in polychromy, ancient wood-boring insect activity visible, consistent with the age and nature of these elements.
