Marcel Pagnol - Lettre autographe signée - 1951

Very beautiful autograph letter signed by Marcel Pagnol (1895-1974), French writer, dramatist and filmmaker famous for his works inspired by Provence.

Very good condition. The letter has 2 signatures: “Marcel” and “MP”, Pagnol having added a note on the back after finishing his letter.

Letter addressed to his sister Germaine Pagnol. Marcel talks about the "Château de sa mère": La Buzine.

The Château de la Buzine, in Marseille, is a former bastide transformed into a castle in the 19th century. Marcel Pagnol bought it in 1941 to create a cinema city, without knowing what place it was. When he visits it a few days later, he recognizes with emotion the “castle of his mother”, the one he dreaded as a child when crossing the estate with his family. This memorable memory will become the heart of his book Le Château de ma mère. The film project fails, the castle is abandoned, then saved and restored by the city of Marseille, which in 2011 makes it a cultural venue dedicated to Mediterranean cinema and to Pagnol’s work.
