* M&W (Silversmith): Made by Mappin & Webb, one of the most prestigious British luxury brands and a royal warrant holder. This brand is highly sought after by collectors.
* Lion Passant (running lion): This guarantees British sterling silver (.925).
* Anchor: This indicates the set was assayed in the silver town of Birmingham.
* Year letter 'u' (in this particular shield-shaped mark): This means the hand mirror was made in 1919. The pin dish bears year letter S, made in 1913.

Condition and Value Development
* Pros: The silver work is beautifully decorated with a leaf border (chased or bright-cut). The piqué silverwork in the tortoiseshell is exceptionally detailed, elegant, and never worn away. The fact that it is a set (mirror + dish) significantly increases its collectible value.
