A 2-Million-Mark Notgeld coin issued as Notgeld by the Prussian Province of Westphalia during the peak of the German hyperinflation in 1923. The obverse features the bust of Franz Wilhelm von Fürstenberg, a prominent reformer, educator, and statesman of Westphalia, surrounded by his name in Gothic characters, in a sober, well-sculpted portrait. The reverse shows a prancing horse, the traditional symbol of Westphalia, accompanied by the inscription Notgeld, the name of the province, the face value of 2 Million Marks, and the issue date. The extraordinary denomination reflects the rapid loss of value of the German mark during the monetary crisis of 1923. The specimen retains well-defined relief, uniform surfaces, and an attractive original satin finish, with light contact marks typical of conservation in Mint State, features fully consistent with the MS63 grade awarded by NGC. These emergency issues stand as a notable historical testimony to one of the most severe episodes of hyperinflation of the 20th century and to the monetary measures adopted by German regional authorities.
