Set of 2 original foreign license plates – Romania & Morocco – vintage automobilia

A particularly decorative lot consisting of two authentically looking used metal license plates from Romania and Morocco. An attractive mix for collectors of international license plates, automobilia, garage items and traffic memorabilia.

1. Romanian license plate – BN 330

The top plate is a Romanian license plate with registration BN 330. On the left is the characteristic blue stripe with the Romanian flag and country code RO.

This detail is interesting for dating. Romania introduced in 1992 a new system with reflective license plates. Until joining the European Union in 2007, the blue stripe displayed the Romanian flag; afterwards it was replaced by the European stars.

The letters BN are the official regional code for Bistrița-Năsăud.

On the right there is moreover a conspicuous red field with 98 / 12, a nicely preserved period detail. Romanian regulations from 1998 also describe the use of colored technical-inspection markings on license plates.

Dating: circa 1990s, in any case type 1992–2007.

2. Moroccan license plate – 1793 / M / 26

The second plate is a handsome older Moroccan metal license plate, with a hand-painted/hand-applied look. The plate is finished in black and white with a central red field featuring the distinctive Moroccan five-pointed star.

The combination of pronounced typography, slight irregularities and visible age gives this plate a lot of character. The reverse shows clear oxidation.

The current Moroccan registration system uses a serial number, a letter and a regional code; the system in this form was introduced around 2000. This plate has a clearly different, older design and is precisely for that reason an interesting collectible. An exact dating or origin of this specific registration cannot be determined with certainty from the photos.

Condition

Both license plates are in used vintage condition with clear signs of use and age. Present are among other things scratches, dirt, paint loss, discoloration, slight deformation and local oxidation/corrosion. Especially the rear of the Moroccan plate shows clear rusting.

These traces are not concealed and contribute to the authentic industrial character. See the photos for the exact condition; they are an integral part of the description.

An attractive international duo that will look excellent in a collection, mancave, garage, workshop, cafe or as industrial wall decoration.
