Authentic and magnificent large oval Art Nouveau-era collectible dish (circa 1900), entirely made of cast and chased pewter.) This antique piece is doubly certified and signed, which gives it significant historical value: Signature of the artist: Signed in relief “Aug. Moreau” directly in the décor [8sc90C]. This is a work by the famous French sculptor Auguste Moreau (1834-1917), worldwide renowned for the grace and poetry of his allegorical figures. Foundry mark: On the back is his official period mark with a crowned rose above the initials “E.F.RES” [DTLh4x]. This is the mark of the famous Parisian house Ettlinger Frères, elite art foundry active in Paris during the Belle Époque, specializing in high-end pewter décor and aesthetics editions: Superb and richly detailed bas-relief decoration typical of the 1900 style. The scene depicts a draped nymph (Venus) sleeping in a wild woodland, surprised by the mischievous Cupid (Love) floating above her with his bow and arrow. The borders of the dish are beautifully serpentine, echoing waves and moving foliage. Condition: Good overall. The reliefs remain clearly defined, the signature is perfectly legible [8sc90C]. The pewter bears a very beautiful original silvered and satin patina with discreet signs of normal wear attesting to its authenticity.
