A 19th‑century standing clock from Belgium, in oak with intricate deep hand‑carved floral motifs in the Liège or Breton style, featuring a mechanical movement with an 8‑day power reserve and half‑hour and hour striking, measuring 240 cm high with a 48 cm wide and 31 cm deep case in good condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
A beautiful antique oak grandfather clock with rich carving.
This stunning, characterful antique standing clock is in good condition, obviously showing signs of age, and has one small chip on the side (see photo).
The case is made of solid oak and features very refined, deeply hand-carved woodwork with classical floral and plant motifs (typical of the Liège or Breton style). It also has very nice hinges and handles.
A true showpiece that immediately adds atmosphere and warmth to a country, classical, or eclectic interior.
Inside the case is a comtoise clock that rests on a support bar to set the correct height; the clock has a classic dial with Roman numerals and ornamental tin/brass details with a French rooster on top. It also has a bell with a strike at the top. The clock present is presumably newer than the cabinet of the standing clock. The clock is missing the left door to open it (see photo).
Includes the two heavy weights and the winding crank (folding crank) that is reinforced in one spot with tape. The rings for hanging the cords on the weights are unfortunately no longer present, hence the construction with iron wire around the weight.
Height of the standing clock: 240 cm
Dimensions of the upper section:
Height: 55.5 cm
Width: 48 cm
Depth: 31 cm
Dimensions of the lower section:
Height: 187.5 cm
Width: 44.5 cm
Depth: 30 cm
Pickup only, you must arrange your own transport; the upper section is removable.
