Piece description

Elegant large planter or Chinese fishbowl from the mid-20th century, made in glazed porcelain and entirely hand-decorated. The piece presents generous dimensions approximately 25 cm in diameter by 30 cm in height, offering a notable decorative presence in both classical and Oriental interiors.

Its exterior decoration stands out for a rich polychrome composition inspired by traditional Chinese aesthetics, organized with lobed cartouches and ornamental panels in cobalt blue, jade green, iron red and gold tones, combined with floral, vegetal and geometric motifs. The interior, equally decorated and hand-glazed, shows delicate representations of fish among lotus leaves, a motif classicly associated in Chinese culture with prosperity, abundance and good fortune.

The quality of the glaze, the refinement of the brushwork and the careful interior and exterior finish evidence an artisanal production intended for the decorative market of quality. The piece also retains a workshop mark in red glaze under a cover on the inner base.

It is in excellent condition, with no breaks, cracks or appreciable restorations.

Artistic composition

This piece combines several of the most representative elements of 20th-century Chinese decorative porcelain. The design is structured through ornamental compartments that alternate floral, vegetal and geometric motifs, creating a visually very attractive balance.

Particularly notable is the interior decoration with fish swimming among lotus leaves. In Chinese artistic tradition, the fish symbolizes prosperity, wealth and abundance, while the flower and lotus leaves represent purity, harmony and spiritual renewal. The combination of these elements makes the work not only decorative but also rich in auspicious symbolism.

The chromatic palette, dominated by deep blues, emerald greens, reds and touches of gold, provides luminosity and sophistication, features especially appreciated in large decorative planters and fishbowls from the second half of the 20th century.
