Description from the seller
Lalique & Daum France – French crystal – Lion Head Bowl and Organic
Offered, without reserve price, a lot of two decorative French crystal objects, originating from the renowned French glassmaking tradition.
The lot consists of an expressive bowl with a lion head made by Lalique and an organically shaped mini vase from Daum France.
1. Lalique – “Tête de Lion”
A heavy, round crystal bowl with the characteristic “Tête de Lion” (Lion Head) motif. In the center lies a smooth, recessed basin, surrounded by a wide, undulating rim with an impressive three-dimensional lion mask in high relief. The mane fans out symmetrically over the rim.
The beautiful contrast between the clear polished crystal and the satinized, matte parts accentuates the relief and creates a special light interaction.
The model dates from the postwar period, circa 1945–1950, the era when Marc Lalique was head of the company. Originally designed as a luxury ashtray, but today mainly loved as a decorative collectible, vide-poche, or jewelry dish.
Dimensions:
Diameter: ca. 14.5 cm
Height: ca. 3.5 cm.
2. Daum France – organic mini vase
The second object is an elegant Daum France crystal mini vase with a pronounced organic, freely formed contour. The vase is made from heavy, thick-walled, clear crystal and has a flowing, undulating shape that is characteristic of modern French glass design.
At the bottom / lower outer edge there is the hand-engraved signature “Daum France”.
The compact size makes it suitable as a mini vase for a single flower or sprig, but also as a decorative object or jewelry dish. The thickness and clarity of the crystal create a beautiful light refraction.
Dimensions:
Height: ca. 7.5 cm
Width: ca. 6.5 cm
Depth: ca. 4.5 cm
Both items are marked, see detail photos.
Both are in very good condition but the bottoms of both objects are badly scratched, see detail photos.
This lot will be securely packaged for worldwide shipping with PostNL via Catawiki shipping service.
