Description from the seller
Antique Tableware/Dessert Service (15 Pieces) - Second Half of the 19th Century - Wooden Handles with Metal Finishes and Stamped Blades
Splendid and fascinating coordinated service for table or dessert/fruit dating to the second half of the 19th century (circa 1870-1890, the Umbertine / Victorian era). The set comprises a total of 15 finely crafted pieces, an excellent testament to European handcrafted silverware of the 1800s.
The service includes:
- 11 three-tork forks (rebus blades) (plainly archaic shape of the era, without punch marks)
- 3 coordinated knives
- 1 large serving fork with two tines (for chopping/serving)
Handles: Made of fine dark ancient wood with faceted cross-section. The handles of the 3 knives are embellished on the front with an elegant metal shield-shaped inlay set flush in the wood.
High craftsmanship structure with a through tang and a central screw visible at the bottom of the handle, secured by a metal ring. This traditional system guarantees authenticity and solidity typical of the period.
Blades and Punches: Made of old carbon steel, not stainless. At least one of the knife blades still preserves in legible form the historic factory stamp impressed: a Tower/Castle topped by a Crown, a prestigious registered mark of a European manufacturer of the era.
Finishes: The lower metal ferrules bear a hot-stamped small geometric punch with the letter "R" in relief, an epochal indication referring to a reinforced metal finishing process.
The service is structurally solid, intact and original. It shows a widespread and genuine patina of time with evident signs of oxidation and surface rust residues on the steel parts (a natural characteristic of the material of the era), easily dry-cleaned. The wooden handles are well preserved. A very scenographic collectible item, sold as-is, ideal for antique and retro table enthusiasts.
Measurements:
Serving fork length: 25 cm
Knives length: 25 cm
Forks length: 18 cm
