RARE SET OF THREE ROMAN SUSPENSION WEIGHTS IN IRON

Roman origin of 1766

Set composed of three old iron suspension weights, of different shapes and dimensions, of Roman origin, constituting an interesting testimony of ancient weighing practices and traditional measurement systems.

The lot comprises three pieces of markedly utilitarian character, highlighting the rounded weight, provided with a sturdy upper ring and large suspension hook; the central specimen, solid and approximately quadrangular, also equipped with ring and hook; and the cylindrical specimen, of compact construction, presenting an upper ring and articulated metal element.

The pieces show an antique patina, signs of use, wear, surface oxidation and signs of manufacture, giving the set an expressive appearance of antiquity and great decorative and collector interest.

Due to their typology and configuration, they are attributed to weighing instruments of Roman tradition, being pieces particularly appealing to collectors of antiquities, archaeology, numismatics and historical metrology, as well as for decoration with classic inspiration.
