Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Two consecutive original pages by Shintaro Kago from the short story Snot and Mouth Ulcers, 29.7 × 21 cm each, 2017, in the series Foreign Object, titled Snot ! Ibutsu Konnyu, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Two consecutive original pages by Shintaro Kago from the short story Snot and Mouth Ulcers (鼻水と口内炎), originally published in the legendary alternative manga magazine AX and later collected in Ibutsu Konnyū (異物混入) by Seirin Kogeisha.
The pages begin almost like an innocent school romance: a boy and girl walk home together and share their first kiss. Kago immediately destroys the romantic cliché when the girl's runny nose becomes part of the encounter, setting up exactly the kind of absurd escalation for which his short stories are famous.
Size: 29.7 × 21 cm each
Media: pencil and ink on drawing paper
Condition: Very Good
Ibutsu Konnyū was published in Japan in 2015 and collects Kago's extremely concentrated short manga, ranging from several pages down to single-page stories. The collection was published in France by IMHO in 2024 as Présence de corps étrangers.
Shintaro Kago made his professional debut in Comic Box in 1988. Rather than simply describing himself as an ero-guro artist, Kago often uses the term “kiso manga” (bizarre or unusual manga) for his work. His manga combines eroticism, grotesque imagery, horror, absurd comedy, science fiction and metafiction, frequently using the human body itself as part of the visual joke.
Kago's humour and elaborate visual absurdity have made him one of the most internationally recognizable artists associated with contemporary ero-guro and alternative manga, alongside names such as Suehiro Maruo. His work has appeared regularly in AX and has been translated and exhibited internationally.
In 2014, Kago received the Gran Guinigi award at Lucca Comics & Games. He has also worked outside manga, including concept artwork for the 2019 Netflix adaptation of Stephen King and Joe Hill's In the Tall Grass.
