Antique Ex Voto devotional object in silver-plated metal with an oval coeval frame and domed glass, dating from 1850–1900, of antique style, made in Italy; dimensions 24 x 18.5 cm, depth 2.5 cm, weight 136 g, in good condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Fascinating and rare Catholic devotional Ex Voto dating to the end of the 19th century (full Umbertine/Fin de Siècle period).
The object is preserved inside its splendid contemporaneous oval frame in gilded metal or burnished brass, complete with the superb original convex glass of the era.
At the center of the composition stands a majestic Flaming Sacred Heart finely worked in bas-relief and chased in sheet silvered metal.
The workmanship is rich in traditional iconographic details of the highest quality:
The Central Heart bears affixed the classic Marian monogram or the letters "PGR" / "GR" (Per Grazia Ricevuta) made in gold-colored metal with strong contrast.
The Border Decoration consists of a sumptuous openwork in a neobaroque taste with scrolls, stylized leaves, floral elements, and the depiction of small cherubs/angels (one at the base to support the heart and others finely hinted on the sides).
The Divine Flame rises ardently from the summit, symbol of zeal and deep faith.
The back is mounted on an elegant dark textured background with a leather or period fabric effect, which magnificently enhances the shine of the silver and gold.
Type: Sacred art object / devotional antiquity
Era: Late 19th century (approx. 1880-1900)
Materials: Silvered metal sheet, gold finishes, contemporaneous metal frame, convex antique glass.
Form: Oval
Condition: Excellent historical condition. Wonderful original patina of the time on both the frame and the argentum plate. The protective glass is intact and without cracks. An authentic and complete piece, ready to be collected or hung.
