Description from the seller
Pair of Louis XV style chairs – Carved wood & floral tapestry – France – Second half of the 20th century
Elegant pair of decorative chairs in Louis XV / Rocaille style, made of carved wood, stained in a warm honey/mahogany brown and featuring very pretty ornamental work.
The backs are particularly decorative, with a central carved shell surrounded by vegetal and floral motifs, characteristic of the decorative vocabulary inspired by Louis XV style. The front legs are curved and carved, reinforcing this classic aesthetic.
The backs and seats are upholstered with a floral and vegetal tapestry, in a soft, elegant palette of beige, cream, old rose, pale green and gray/blue, with large symmetrical floral motifs. The trim is highlighted by a row of patinated metal upholstery tacks.
The structure appears to be made of deciduous wood, presumably beech stained and varnished, a traditional wood species used for this type of seating. Precise identification of the wood cannot be guaranteed without direct examination.
Dimensions of each chair:
Height: 98 cm
Width: 46 cm
Depth: 42 cm
Style: Louis XV / Rocaille, in the style
Estimated period: second half of the 20th century
Indicative dating: around 1960–1980
Materials: carved and varnished wood, tapestry fabric, padding and decorative tacks
Colors: honey/mahogany brown, beige, cream, old rose, pale green and blue-gray
Quantity: 2 chairs
The pair presents a beautiful harmony and a particularly warm decor.
These chairs would suit both a classic, romantic, château, country house or eclectic interior, and can also be used as decorative occasional seating.
