The Bamun kingdom, founded by the arrival of migrants from Rifoum and the Tikars, is a people in western Cameroon. In the Bamun language, there is no literal translation for the term 'art'; there are rather sculptors and metal founders, but artists are inseparable from artisans. Nevertheless, art has developed enormously throughout the history of the Bamun people.

Le royaume Bamun, fondé par l’arrivée d’émigrants de Rifoum et des Tikars, est un peuple de l’ouest du Cameroun. Dans la langue bamun, il n’existe pas de traduction littérale pour le terme « art », on connaît plutôt des sculpteurs et fondeurs mais les artistes sont indissociables des artisans. Tout de même, l’art s’est énormément développé durant toute l’histoire du peuple Bamun.
