Description from the seller

A single leaf from an illuminated Qur'an manuscript, India, dated 1751 (AH1164/65). Recto/verso containing the closing verses of chapter 23, Surah Al-Mu'minum (The Believers), v.112-118, the Surah and opening verse to Chapter 24, An-Nur (The Light), with its full-width gilt heading panel naming the surah and verse count, and the Bismillah formula. It is written in fine, well-proportioned naskh hand in black ink, with verse markers picked out in gold roundels and red diacritical/recitatin marks throughout.

Text on the leaf includes God's closing address to the disbelievers on the brevity of worldly life, the affirmation of God as "the True King" and "Lord of the Noble Throne", and the Prophet's concluding supplication for mercy and forgiveness (23:118).

The page is miniature indicating that this would have been a travelling companion of a devotee. As the quality is so fine this may have been the companion of an important person. The script is contained within an inner gold margin and there is a thicker outer gold margin frame.

Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to research the article, to mount it, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.

Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
