Description from the seller
Offered is a monumental and highly decorative antique wall mirror in West-European neobaroque style (historicism). This mirror is a beautiful example of high-quality, artisanal craftsmanship from the last quarter of the 19th century.
The frame is entirely hand-carved from solid wood and finished with a deep, jet-black lacquer. This gives the traditional Baroque design a strikingly modern and chic character, making it perfect for both a classic and an contemporary, eclectic interior.
Special Features & Carving:
The Crown: The top of the frame features an impressive, open-work crown in which two opposite (mirror-imaged) heraldic lions are carved, with an elegant floral and shield motif in the center
The Frame: The sides are richly decorated with deeply carved, flowing acanthus leaves and scrolls. Thanks to the substantial depth of no less than 8 cm, the woodcarving has a beautiful three-dimensional high-relief effect on the wall.
The Back: The authentic construction at the back shows the original coarse, hand-saw wooden panels and traditional finishing (textile/paper strips to protect the mirror glass). This testifies to the honorable age and authenticity of the piece. The mirror is equipped with a sturdy metal tension wire and is ready for mounting.
Specifications & Exact Dimensions:
Origin: Western Europe (likely Germany, France or Italy)
Period: About 1870 – 1900 (Late 19th century / Historicism)
Material: Solid wood (hand-carved), mirror glass
Color: Jet black
Overall height: 110 cm
Overall width: 64.5 cm
Frame depth: 8 cm
Inner height (mirror glass): 70 cm
Inner width (mirror glass): 40.5 cm
Condition:
The mirror is in very good antique condition for its age. The object shows characteristic light signs of aging and a beautifully well-worn patina that attest to its historical background. The hand-carved woodwork has remained remarkably well conserved and the fragile, open-work crown with the lions is fully intact (no missing parts or large cracks). Please inspect the detail photos carefully for a proper impression of the age-related features; they are an integral part of the description.
Shipping & Pickup:
Pickup: Due to size, weight and the fragility of the open-work woodcarving, pickup is strongly preferred.
Shipping within Europe: Shipping is possible to destinations within Europe. You should contact me directly after purchase to discuss the details.
Transport & Costs: There are excellent options for fully safe and professional transport. The actual shipping costs vary by country and are likely between €75 and €300. All transport costs are fully the buyer’s responsibility.
Good luck with your bidding!
