Unknown artist - Chasse Royale au Dromadaire (Shikar)

Indian narrative painting entirely handmade on fine natural silk. This work is part of the pure artistic tradition of Rajput and Mughal miniatures of Rajasthan. The scene depicts an original and particularly dynamic variant of the royal hunt (Shikar). It features a warrior in traditional attire mounted on a combat camel, defending himself with a lance against a leaping lion. In the foreground, a second rider on a magnificent white horse comes to lend him a hand. The work is distinguished by the vividness of its colors, the finesse of the details (notably the drapery and the tack of the animals) as well as its decorative border with stylized floral motifs. The reverse side of the piece bears witness to the authenticity and finesse of the silk support, the pigments having delicately traversed the textile warp. A very beautiful piece for collection and Orientalist decoration.
