Solid silver statuette – Immaculate Virgin on a starry globe – Spain, star hallmark (.915), circa 1935–1960
Beautiful solid silver religious statuette representing the Immaculate Virgin. The Virgin is depicted standing, hands crossed on the chest and gaze turned toward the sky. She rests on a globe adorned with eight-pointed stars, Marian symbol. The statuette is mounted on a turned blackened wood base.
The work is in repoussé and chased silver, with an expressive rendering of the face and the drapery.
• Origin: Spain
• Era: circa 1935–1960
• Material: solid silver (finest .915/1000) and base in blackened wood
• Mark: official Spanish hallmark “five-pointed star in a circle” (in use since 1934, guaranteeing .915/1000 purity) – visible at the base of the robe (see photos)
Condition: good overall; small ancient cracks visible at the weld between the globe and the robe, wear and handling marks consistent with age; base slightly marked.
