This concerns a special prototype specimen of the Leica Ultravid 8×50, a model known for its exceptional optical quality, high light transmission, and robust construction. What makes this specimen unique is that it is a prototype model. For such units, Leica removes the serial number before the product leaves the factory. This is done by removing or smoothing the number to prevent a test or development model from being registered as an official serial model in Leica’s administration. The absence of a serial number is therefore a well-known characteristic of Leica prototypes and demonstration specimens (see the last photo).
