We provide high-quality cameras and lenses to the world.
The Canon Datematic of 1974 was Canon's first camera with a built-in date imprinting function, stamping the year, month and day onto the film through a small window in the back. It is a compact rangefinder with a Canon 40mm f/2.8 lens, programmed automatic exposure driven by a CdS meter, and a self-timer, aimed at families who wanted their snapshots dated without fuss. Today it is an unusual and pleasant everyday shooter from the golden age of Japanese compact rangefinders.
Condition: Used — Excellent

Finder: Cleaned internally — clear
Lens / Sensor: Cleaned internally — clear.
Functional
The camera operates properly — shutter, film transport, rangefinder and meter all work. The meter measured about 0 EV at EV12 and -0.5 EV at EV15, within normal range. A battery is required.
The light seals have been replaced and the viewfinder and lens cleaned internally.
The date-imprinting function has not been tested.
Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- Light meter accuracy — EV12: ±0 / EV15: 0.5 UNDER
Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself.
Servicing
This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Light seals (foam) replaced
- Viewfinder cleaned internally
- Lens cleaned internally

Shipping
We ship via either FedEx or Japan Post (ePacket), whichever suits the destination and the parcel. With Japan Post your package is handed over to the local postal carrier in your country for final delivery.
