Original Rolls-Royce factory tool-store box, a solid timber box with dovetail joints manufactured by The Nottingham Mills Company Ltd, bearing original “ROLLS-ROYCE LTD” and “TOOL STORES” stencils, inventory UE.5183/4, a handwritten stock tag, and dating evidence suggesting mid-20th century use with a possible 1982 inventory date, in reasonable authentic condition.
Description from the seller
An original vintage wooden tool-store box produced for Rolls-Royce Ltd and believed to have been used at the company’s Crewe factory.
The box is constructed from solid timber with traditional dovetail joints and carries original black stencilled markings reading “ROLLS-ROYCE LTD” and “TOOL STORES.” One end bears the manufacturer’s diamond-shaped stamp for The Nottingham Mills Company Ltd, while the opposite end retains an inventory plate marked “UE.5183/4.”
Also included is an original handwritten stock tag recording department and operation information, together with what appears to be the date “10.82.” This may indicate that the box remained in factory inventory or continued to be used during the 1980s, rather than representing its original production date.
Comparable Rolls-Royce factory tool boxes have been dated to the mid-20th century, with examples associated with the Rolls-Royce works at Crewe. These sturdy wooden containers were used within factory tool stores to organise and transport tools, components and engineering equipment.
The box remains in authentic industrial condition, displaying scratches, stains, dents, edge wear, fading and other marks acquired during its working life. These imperfections contribute to its historical character. Please examine all photographs carefully for an accurate impression of its condition.
