A beautiful specimen of the monumental and highly sought-after architecture book "Natural History" by the world-famous Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron (known for, among others, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Tate Modern in London) COPYRIGHT Bookshop.
This concerns the very rare first edition from 2002, published in close collaboration with the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) in Montreal on the occasion of the influential exhibition "Archaeology of the Mind".
The book deeply examines the boundary-pusting dialogue between their architecture and contemporary art COPYRIGHT Bookshop. The work is structured as an encyclopedia and reflects the layout of a natural history museum.

In the book "Natural History" everything revolves around the boundary-crossing cross-pollination between architecture, art, and science. A number of very prominent international artists and photographers have actively contributed to this project through in-depth interviews, visual contributions, or specific essays.

Thomas Ruff: The world-renowned German conceptual photographer (known for his monumental, abstract and architectural photography). He has more intensively collaborated with Herzog & de Meuron to capture their buildings in a unique way.

Jeff Wall: The Canadian artist known for his very carefully staged, large photographs in light boxes. His work forms an important reference framework in the book.

Rémy Zaugg: The influential Swiss conceptual artist. He was a key figure and a very good friend of the architects. He designed, among other things, the earlier major survey exhibition of the firm in the Centre Pompidou (1995).

Joseph Beuys: Although he had already passed away at the time of publication, this iconic German artist is given extensive treatment in the book. Herzog & de Meuron cite his theories about materials and "social sculpture" as one of their greatest artistic sources of inspiration.

In addition, the book includes contributions from internationally renowned art historians, curators and philosophers such as Georges Didi-Huberman, Boris Groys and curator Philip Ursprung himself.

Notes: The book is in an exceptionally fine state. The delicate matte hardcover shows little to no scratches or wear. The corners are still perfectly sharp and undented. The interior is unread, tightly bound, completely clean and unwritten.
