Salt cellar (5) - .800 silver

Antique, classical silver dining set with inner bowls of cobalt blue glass dating from the end of the 19th century.

(Victorian, Edwardian, or French Louis XVI style). The set consists of the following components:

Central mustard or sugar pot: The round, openwork (reticulated) pot in the middle has a hinged lid, an elegant handle, and a matching spoon.

Four boat-shaped salt cellars: The four openwork bowls on legs on the sides are intended for salt or spices at the dining table.

This type of table silverware was formerly used by the well-to-do class. The deep blue glass not only provided a beautiful contrast with the gleaming silver but also protected the metal from the corrosive effects of salt and mustard.
