Tea strainer - .800 silver - Silver tea strainer

This is an antique silver tea strainer, made in the richly decorated Hanau or Dutch Old Style around 1900.

The piece is adorned with detailed repoussé work (hammered relief) and features images of putti (winged little angels or cherubs) amid elegant scroll and botanical motifs (rocaille).

This type of tea strainer was designed to catch loose tea leaves when pouring and was often placed flat on the opening of the teapot or teacup.

Such tea strainers are generally made of 800-fineness silver.
