Description from the seller
Antique Ernemann Heag VI (ca. 1910) 'Zwei-Verschluß' with red bellows, Koilos shutter, Lacour-Berthiot lens – Including rare Ernemann 12-plate magazine
Description:
A splendid, very complete and mechanically fascinating centerpiece of antique photography: an Ernemann Heag VI 'Zwei-Verschlußkamera' (double-shutter camera) from the early 20th century. This particular lot stands out not only for the high-quality optics, but also for the presence of a highly sought-after and original Ernemann accessory.
The camera is fitted with the iconic, deep-red leather bellows that beautifully contrast with the warm mahogany wood and the chrome/brass details of the ground-glass/frame mechanism.
Unique technical features & extras:
• Zwei-Verschluß System: Luxury version with two independent shutters: the central Koilos shutter on the front and a built-in slit shutter (focal plane) in the rear housing.
• Koilos shutter: An early, sought-after aluminium shutter with the characteristic mechanical engravings on the front.
• Lacour-Berthiot Lens: Equipped with high-quality French optics from the renowned maker Berthiot, a true upgrade compared to the lenses standardly mounted at the time.
• Including Ernemann Magazine: This lot is complete with the original, matching Ernemann plate magazine with capacity for 12 film or glass plates. A fantastic and rare accessory that is seldom offered together with the camera! [1]
Condition of the object:
• Cosmetic: In very nice vintage condition. The woodwork is sound, the black leather on the housing shows only light, age-related marks. The red bellows are visually in beautiful condition and have retained their deep color well (see photos).
• Optical & Mechanical front: The ground-glass slides smoothly along the guide rails. The lens is optically clean. No scratches, fungus or haze.
• Status of the focal plane shutter (Important note): The internal focal plane shutter in the rear housing currently does not function. The mechanism and the curtain still appear to be fully present within the housing, but as is very common with this specific model and its age, the internal ribbons have worn over time. A recognizable and honest sign of aging that does not detract from the historical value for a collection or display piece.
An absolute eyecatcher in any display case and a historically important, very complete ensemble from the history of early large-format photography.
Specifications:
• Manufacturer: Ernemann-Werke AG (Dresden, Germany)
• Model: Heag VI (Zwei-Verschlußkamera)
• Type: Ground-glass / Plate camera
• Lens: Lacour-Berthiot
• Shutter: Koilos
• Bellows color: Red
• Accessory: Original Ernemann 12-plate magazine [1]
