Medieval bronze ring with a dark cabochon stone, dating to the 14th–16th century, in excellent condition and provenance from a European private collection with an authentic original stone set in a domed bezel.
Description from the seller
A finely preserved Medieval bronze ring set with a striking dark cabochon stone, creating a bold yet understated appearance typical of personal jewellery from the High and Late Middle Ages. The smooth, polished stone—possibly dark glass, jet, or another decorative material—contrasts beautifully with the rich archaeological patina of the bronze mount.
Its simple and elegant design reflects the practical craftsmanship of the medieval period, when rings served not only as ornaments but also as symbols of status, personal identity, and protection. Dark gemstones were often associated with wisdom, resilience, and spiritual safeguarding, making such rings popular personal possessions throughout medieval Europe.
The bronze bezel securely holds the original domed stone, while the slender hoop retains its authentic medieval form. The naturally aged surfaces, combined with centuries of wear, give the piece exceptional historical character and authenticity.
Condition: Very good archaeological condition with an attractive natural dark green and brown patina. The original dark cabochon stone remains intact and securely set, displaying expected age-related wear and minor surface imperfections consistent with its antiquity.
Provenance: Acquired from a European private collection; formerly part of an old collection assembled before 2000.
A beautiful and wearable Medieval ring, combining elegant simplicity with a mysterious dark gemstone, making it an excellent addition to any collection of medieval jewellery or historical wearable antiquities.
