Brand Ongemerkt, model Frans wooden travel stereoscope (stéréoscope de voyage) with adjustable oculars, glasses and film positives, in good physical condition and tested and working, dating to ca. 1900–1910.
Description from the seller
French wooden travel stereoscope (stéroscope de voyage) with adjustable oculars, glass and film positives — Fontainebleau, Côte d'Azur and Rocamadour
France, ca. 1900-1910
A French tabletop stereoscope in a mahogany case, with two nickel-plated ocular tubes housed in black-lacquered brass that can be jointly sharpened via a twist knob. On the side there is a sliding slot with a flap into which the glass or film stereopositives are inserted to view; the top is equipped with a sliding lid with a brass rail.
Accompanying the device is a set of original, partly still unopened stereopositives:
"Positifs sur Verre pour le Stéréoscope et la Projection", Fontainebleau series — 12 pieces
A. Lumière & Ses Fils (reused as a storage box) with loose glass stereoscopic pictures — 19 pieces
"Stéréofilms Bruguière — 12 Positifs Stéréoscopiques sur Film", Côte d'Azur/Rocamadour series — 12 pieces
The combination of the viewing device with several, partly brand-specific sets of glass and film positives (Bruguière, Lumière) makes this a complete, ready-to-use travel stereoscope ensemble, characteristic of French domestic/tourist stereophotography from the first decades of the 20th century.
Dimensions:
approx. 7.7 cm H
approx. 13/15 cm W
approx. 9.5/12.5 cm D
Shipped well packed and insured.
