The Canon Canonet G-III QL17 of 1972 is the final and best-loved version of the Canonet rangefinder line, pairing a fast 40mm f/1.7 lens with shutter-priority automatic exposure, full manual control and Canon's Quick Loading film system in a compact, solidly built body. Its bright coupled rangefinder and large-aperture lens make it one of the most sought-after fixed-lens rangefinders of its era, and it was produced in large numbers until the early 1980s.

Important — please read carefully:
The front lens element has heavy haze and fungus traces, the meter reads about 3 stops bright, and the finder is hazy. Mechanically working. Please review the photos and consider this before bidding.

Appearance
Scuffs and scratches from normal use. Please check the photos for details.

Optical Condition
Haze: Heavy haze and fungus traces on the front element of the 40mm f/1.7 — the lens has been cleaned internally, but this remains and photographs will be soft and low in contrast. See photos.
Finder: Residual haze inside the viewfinder after cleaning; rangefinder patch visible but dim.

Functional
The shutter, film transport and rangefinder work. The meter responds, but reads about +2.3 EV at EV12 and +2.9 EV at EV15 — see Known Issues.
The battery-check lamp does not light.
The light seals have been replaced, and the viewfinder and lens have been cleaned internally.

Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- Light meter accuracy — EV12: 2.3 OVER / EV15: 2.9 OVER
Some of these deviations exceed what negative film can absorb — please read the Known Issues section and allow for them when shooting.

Servicing
This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Light seals (foam) replaced
- Viewfinder cleaned internally
- Lens cleaned internally

Known Issues
1. Heavy haze and fungus traces on the front element — expect soft, low-contrast images. Sold for its body and mechanics, or for a lens restoration project.
2. The meter reads about 2.5 to 3 stops bright; use an external meter with manual settings.
3. Residual haze inside the viewfinder; the rangefinder is usable but dim.
4. The battery-check lamp does not light.
