The Asahi Pentax SV of 1962 is the last and most refined of the pre-Spotmatic Pentax SLRs, adding a self-timer and an automatic-reset frame counter to the S3's fully coupled auto-diaphragm design. Its single-stroke lever wind, instant-return mirror and bright pentaprism made Asahi's cameras the model that much of the industry followed, and the M42 screw mount opened the door to a vast range of lenses. It is paired here with the Super-Takumar 105mm f/2.8, a compact short telephoto prized for portraits, with the smooth focusing and gentle rendering that made the Takumar name.

Functional
The camera operates properly — shutter and film transport work. Shutter speeds measured about 1 s and 1/49 at 1/60 (accurate); 1/1000 runs at about 1/390, about 1.4 stops slow — see Known Issues. The SV has no built-in meter; it is fully mechanical and needs no battery.
The Super-Takumar 105mm f/2.8 focuses smoothly and the aperture blades are clean.

Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- 1 s — measured 1/0.9 s (approx. 0.2 stop slow)
- 1/60 — measured 1/49 s (approx. 0.3 stop slow)
- 1/1000 — measured 1/390 s (approx. 1.4 stop slow)
Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself.

Known Issues
1. The 1/1000 speed runs about 1.4 stops slow (measured about 1/390); 1/500 and slower are accurate.
