HISTORY:
Originally delivered in Germany, after 4 years exported to California and brought back to Europe by me about three years ago.
As a Mercedes V8 collector this W126 has received all the attention it deserves and is ready to be included in a collection as well as to provide daily enjoyment.
BODYWORK AND PAINT:
The Mercedes was repainted in its original Smoke Silver color during the restoration, documented with about 300 photos.
The 500SEL is absolutely rust-free and the rear windshield was replaced after the typical condensation rust between trunk and window was fully repaired.
Subsequently the chrome was matched to the body color as befits the current AMG trend.
There are still tiny traces of paint visible on some rubbers. This, along with a tiny crack in the trunk spoiler, are the only remarks to mention.
TECHNICAL:
During the upgrade/restoration not a euro was spared. The AMG-designed camshafts with AMG/Febi lightweight lifters and the AMG-copy exhaust allowed us to register an impressive 280HP.
The new tires with the correct speed rating and the brand-new sport suspension and Bilstein shock absorbers following AMG guidelines complete the package.
Apart from a non-working cruise control there are no anticipated expenses; maintenance has been performed.
Naturally this jewel shifts superbly and starts on the first crank both cold and warm.
INTERIOR:
There is a slight material difference between the two new Recaro seats and the original rear bench.
Otherwise the interior is almost like new despite its 41 years. The original Mercedes front seats can be supplied if desired.
The headliner is tight, though it shows some age spots.
The sunroof, the windows, the power seats, the automatic climate control—indeed, everything works perfectly, except the cruise control mentioned earlier.
Possibly the gas on the refreshed air conditioning needs refilling; it did cool (it was 42 degrees outside) but in my opinion not quite enough.
The non-working Clarion is merely a façade for the high-end streaming unit with excellent new speakers and a woofer under the driver's seat. The music enthusiast drives with a concert hall.
DOCUMENTS:
All documents to register the vehicle in Europe are present.
There is also an extensive folder with invoices, advice and paraphernalia related to AMG and W126.

The Mercedes is located in Vera-Playa, Spain, and can be viewed by appointment there; a test drive is also possible.
