Rare antique typewriter “Rapid No. 10” (c. 1912) – a collectible & decorative piece (Fox Typewriter Co., USA)

For sale is an absolute rarity in the history of typewriters: a beautiful, antique “Rapid Typewriter No. 10” from around 1912.

This historic collectible was manufactured by the Rapid Typewriter Co. in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. Behind this name hides a fascinating story: technically, it is a rare rebranding version of the famous Fox No. 23, produced by the Fox Typewriter Company in only a very small run. This makes this model today a real “phantom machine” and a rarity on the market.

Origin: Original Grand Rapids, Mich., USA (with a golden manufacturer’s inscription).

Design: Classic, striking design with elegant lines, curved forms and the original gold decorative stripes (pinstriping).

Beautiful round keys in vintage look, including the characteristic red backspace key on the left side.

I have not tested the machine since I do not have an ink ribbon. However, the mechanics work, all keys function and return to their original positions, the carriage glides smoothly, nothing binds, all components are present. A full overhaul is probably necessary. Visually it shows light signs of wear that are only visible up close.

Whether as an exclusive highlight for the study, as a centerpiece in a display cabinet, or as a valuable centerpiece for a historical typewriter collection, this “Rapid No. 10” is a piece of lived industrial history from the early 20th century.
