Description
A fine set of four Chinese blue and white porcelain bowls, known as “Bleu de Hué”, made for the Vietnamese market and associated with the imperial court of Huế.
The four bowls are decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with finely painted naturalistic motifs, including birds, insects, flowers and foliage, combined with characteristic scrolling cloud-like borders.
The bases bear four-character marks in underglaze blue, associated with the Bleu de Hué tradition. The decoration, forms, cobalt-blue painting and distinctive marks are characteristic of Chinese porcelain produced for Vietnamese patrons during the 19th century.
