Antique Aubusson-style Chinese rug – 240 × 145 cm

We present a beautiful antique Chinese rug in Aubusson style, made approximately between 1940 and 1950.

The rug is made using an ancient manual tufting technique, in which the wool tufts are worked by hand on a cotton base. On the reverse, the structure is stabilized with a traditional fixing compound that keeps the tufts in place, and finally protected by a textile lining. The pile is worked and cut by hand, creating the beautiful relief characteristic of this type of rug.

It features an elegant floral design inspired by Aubusson, with a delicate color combination and an appealing relief effect.

For its approximately 75–85 years of age, it is in fairly good overall condition.

The protective lining on the reverse shows dirt, stains and wear typical of the years, as clearly seen in the photographs.

A professional specialized cleaning is recommended, due to both its age and its particular manufacturing technique.
