Thonet - Chair (2) - Wood - Vienna 1900/1910

Wonderful and original pair of chairs in curved beech wood stained walnut, in Art Nouveau style, produced by Thonet (Austria). This model, dating from the very early 1900s, is distinguished by the panel-shaped backrest and by the characteristic floral and geometric motifs heat-embossed on both the plywood seat and the backrest. This relief decorative technique (often associated with the Cosmos variants) was used in the first decades of the twentieth century to embellish the classic bistro or Viennese coffeehouse chairs. Pieces now rare and in good condition, conservative restoration work carried out, cleaning and plugging of the holes with professional wax and final polishing. Present original Thonet Austria marks (fire-stamped) and paper marks (partial).
