Description
Very beautiful ancient Persian prayer rug, coming from a family collection and having belonged to my father.
A particularly refined piece, characterized by an extremely fine knotting and a richly detailed composition.
The décor is organized around a mihrab with an ogival arch, on a superb deep blue background. In the center unfolds a composition evoking the Tree of Life, abundantly flowering and animated by numerous birds arranged symmetrically.
Notably, two birds facing each other in the upper part, several long-necked birds in the central part, as well as two large birds placed on either side of a flowering vase at the base of the composition. The whole is surrounded by rich arabesques, flowers, foliage and small botanical motifs.
The corners and the various borders reprise this floral and animal vocabulary, with notably large bird motifs in the corners. The palette combines deep blue, red, ivory, green, brown and orangish highlights, in a particularly harmonious composition.
The back and the macro photographs with a millimeter scale allow appreciating the very great fineness of the knotting, visually estimated around 90 to 110 knots per cm², an estimation to be confirmed by expertise.
The material is very fine, supple, shiny and with a silky appearance. In its design and execution precision, the rug could correspond to a high-quality Persian production, possibly of the Qom/Ghom type in silk, attribution and material remaining to be confirmed by a specialist.
