Description from the seller
The Marka are an ethnicity very close to the Bambara, whose art is notably characterized by their masks covered with brass plates, like this one.
Among the Marka, Do is the spirit that the masks give form to and which constitutes its expression.
Do comes from the bush through the leaf mask and, in some mythic cases, through masks made of fiber and with a carved wooden head.
In the religious system of Marka society, Do is the most invoked and its cult the most elaborate.
The Marka are organized into structured and hierarchical mask societies.
There exists a medium-length initiatic language of communication in the hands of initiates.
Object in very good condition, no restoration, well preserved in its natural state.
